Year in the lif of.... Mrs. Peterson (Issue 3)

Its time to count your blessings and prepare for break, for some preparation for this takes longer than others and requires more work. This applies especially for the office. Mrs. Peterson says there is a lot of work ranging anywhere from report card dispensing to preparing for Future Freshman Day and everything in between those.
“For me, it is quite busy before Thanksgiving because I am getting ready for report card pick-up and Future Freshmen Day. When parents don’t come in to pick up the report card, it means even more work because then I have to mail it along with the next year's registration card. As the semester ends, report cards are printed, stuffed in envelopes, and mailed to parents. I usually get ONE day to get this done - fun!” stated Mrs. Peterson.
Despite all that after Thanksgiving passes things get a little less hectic although they can still be stressful “After Thanksgiving, things calm down as we get into the excitement of Christmas. On the last day before Christmas break, we have our office party with our special treats for them to eat & drink. Mrs. LeFevre has the whole break off and I may take one or two days away from school, but usually I am here trying to clear off my desk and getting ready for everyone to come back all rested and raring to go for finals.” stated Mrs. Peterson.
The biggest task before Thanksgiving break is Future Freshman Day “The task that is pressing before Thanksgiving is all the preparation for Future Freshmen Day. Future Freshmen Day preparation is hectic because I usually don’t get the materials for the packets until the day before!! So I'm hustling to collate and make the packets look presentable in too short a time! We are trying to put our best foot forward for the 300+ 8th graders and parents that will visit on that day.  Mr. Reincke and the counselors have to make sure all the changes are made to the pages that are included in the packet that is handed out. Then I have to coordinate it with the person who designs and gets them ready for the printer. And then I sweat it out until the boxes of materials are delivered and I can put them into the folders.” stated Mrs. Peterson
Upon returning from the break there are different attitudes that run through the school that last until about after finals, “I can tell that some students are ready for Christmas by how hyper they are, yet bored at the same time; and waiting to get away from here anticipating all the fun things they've planned for the break . Coming back from break, they tend to be concerned about not being ready for finals; and do a lot of complaining about the fact that they wish finals would have been given before Christmas.” stated Mrs. Peterson.

Year in the life of....Mrs. Peterson (Issue 2)

Some may not know Mrs.  Peterson well enough to yet to understand that her personality is more of a grandmother like personality. If you ever need help with anything that relates to North she will at least do her best to answer the questions. When freshman first come up they tend to be clueless and not sure what they are supposed to do. “This year's freshmen class gets an "A" for making the transition to high school without any trauma or drama! They seemed to know where they needed to get to and got there on time from day one! They have settled in and have become involved in things that have piqued their interests,” she said
Now, aside from the freshmen, she has also noticed some changes between this school year and last school year, “The biggest change is in enrollment, most of the freshmen who registered for LHN last spring are here. But we lost a number of upperclassmen who did not return for one reason or another. Also there are new faces on the faculty in Spanish, Mrs. Remy, and girls' P.E., Mrs. Gilbert, both welcomed additions. Some teachers took on new teaching responsibilities and some teachers have moved to new areas in the building,” she said
For Mrs. Peterson and, of course, all of the school office, the beginning of the year is the most stressful. “The start of school is always busy with all the paperwork - checking in NOAH hours, updating records & files, selling goggles for chemistry, & powder puff shirts - typical 'every year' stuff to deal with. As usual, we have awesome office aides who help with the phone calls, mail delivery, and stocking the paper room. For me personally, this year Mr. Reincke assigned me to be the Constant Contact coordinator and I am enjoying my new duty so far,” she said
As always there are different attitudes or maybe the same ones throughout the different school years Mrs. Peterson said she has been noticing these, “Everyone had to adapt to the missing 'minute bell'. There were a few grumblings, but acceptance has set in and seniors especially realize that the minute bell tolls for no one. Caution: be on the lookout for speed zone restrictions. Dress code rules are still being challenged and are dealt with as they are brought to the attention of the administration.,” she said

Nicole Moustakas’s Talent

Talents can range from flat out stupid to totally awesome, and how you determine how to classify a talent depends on your personality. Well, Nicole Moustakas a sophomore here at Lutheran High North has a talent in acting. Now this may be boring but Nicole has been the role of three people all in one show. Now that is a lot of quick changes and different personalities.
Nicole stated she enjoys acting because Nicole gets to become someone she is not. In other words Nicole gets to become a character and develop its personality and basically get to become that character for the period of time that the play is going on. Nicole also stated that she chose to start acting because Nicole enjoyed speaking in front of people and Nicole has always had a lot of emotion when speaking. Nicole also likes to use her hands while talking so you put speech and use of hands together and you get an actor/actress. Nicole has been involved in some from of acting since she was in seventh grade.
Nicole stated that she would like to take up acting as an official career if she could get into an acting school like Julliard she would, however she also stated that “making it in acting is a hard thing to do so it’s not the most secure job.” Some words of advice from Nicole: Nicole said “I find that becoming my character is the easiest. It’s usually really easy for me to get into character.” Nicole said “The hardest part of acting is memorizing the lines and sticking to the script. I have ideas but what the character says goes.”

Year In The Life Of...Mrs. Perterson (Issue 1)

My year in the life of topic this year will be Mrs. Peterson or Mrs. P. Some people don’t know what Mrs. P really does, and that’s why I picked her. Some of what I will be covering are what Mrs. P does on a day-to-day basis, if Mrs. P’s job is ever stressful, how Mrs. P’s job varies from day to day and month to month, and her personality. Now let’s get to know Mrs. P a little bit more.
Mrs. P has been at LHN since July 2000. Mrs. P has been a school secretary for twenty-seven years. Mrs. P has only been a secretary at one other school-Milwaukee Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Some of Mrs. P’s favorite parts of the school year include the beginning of the school year when all the kids come back and she gets to meet all the new freshman, selling powderpuff shirts and all the other things that go along with homecoming and Homecoming week, Future Freshman Day, and last but not least getting all the seniors ready for graduation- of course not because she wants us to leave but because she finds it exciting to see how far we’ve come since freshman year and what our future plans are.
Mrs. P describes the first couple weeks/month of the school year as an exciting, stressful, fun time all rolled into one, it can be stressful because Mrs. P has to organize all the mounds of paperwork the faculty and students have to hand in, getting all the NOAH hours recorded for those who have owed hours from last year and for those who have handed in hours for this year, amongst doing all this they have to help students with their schedule, lunch time, locker combinations, etc., but Mrs. P says she’s learned to go-with-the-flow. Mrs. P says the excitement and fun is seeing all the kids who were here for years before come back and are just oh so happy to be back in school- just like Mrs. P is, and to meet all the new students that are joining us at LHN.

Personality Profile

Hyper, happy, and usually just all over……These are just a few of the many ways people use to describe me, Alex Smith. I am a senior this year at Lutheran High North. One of my favorite things to do is hanging out and having a good time with all my friends. My music is basically my life. Aside from being with friends I love working with little kids, for one reason, being that they are always smiling and nothing seems to get to them, this is why after North I want to go to college to become a kindergarten teacher.
